Perhaps Ruby Bridges’ greatest achievement was proving that one can never be to small or to young to fight for a cause that is right. Her attending that school caused many problems for her family. Her father lost his job and their family was no longer welcome at the white grocery store. Even Ruby’s grandparents went through trouble because of Ruby going to the white school. They were evicted from the farm they had been living on for a quarter of a century. Despite all of these hardships faced by her family, their contribution to the civil rights movement was not deterred. By taking the small step of attending the white school, she motivated other black students to not be afraid. She had the courage to attend the white school and she had the bravery to go there alone. She had the fortitude to attend unlike the 2 other students, who were rightfully afraid to go to the white school. Despite the fact that her whole family had to suffer, without her bravery, the United States may not be as it is today.
