One of Ruby bridges greatest acheivments was an autobiography she wrote. Many people became interested in learning about this 6 year old's experience of going to school. She wrote, Through My Eyes, which was published in 1999. This book describes in detail the segregation through Ruby's perspective. It also goes into depth on the hardships Ruby and her family had to face. The unique perspective of this book is that it is written by the person who made history and so it is completely believable. With the way Ruby had written it, the reader is able to visualize what is going on because of the detailed explanations Ruby had given.
This story of Ruby Bridges was also adapted into a movie. In the 19990's, Disney decided to make a movie about Ruby's life. It was released January 18, 1998 and gave a realistic view of Ruby's emotional journey. Starring Penelope Ann Miller, Kevin Pollak, Michael Beach, and Jean Louisa Kelly, the movie helped teach generations of children about the life of Ruby Bridges and the struggle of the Civil Rights Movement. By watching this interesting movie, both adults and young children get an accurate representation of history. |
